ORKNEY
DAY 5-6 of our September Orkney Tour:
Delayed Leaving Kirkwall (strong winds!) and extra day on Scapa Beach
Due to gale-force winds our ferry was cancelled so had to stay another night – which actually we were all rather pleased about! An extra day exploring Orkney and staying in a beautiful self-catering cottage – what could be better!
1. Watching the redshanks and little plover fight against the crashing waves.
2. Fun and Games on the beach – Dad lost his hat!
3. Scapa Beach – home to the renowned whisky distillery.
4. Struggling to stand upright in the gale-force winds on Scapa Beach – in danger of losing another hat!
5. Jumping over seaweed, sinking shoes and collecting shells.
6. The solitary figure.
7. Binoculars darting around the bay trying to keep up with the flocks of wading birds.
8. Leaving Kirkwall
9. Back on the board the Pentalina, setting sail from South Ronaldsay
10. Beautiful colours on the sea in the setting sun.
