Allemanda

Beginning with the stately and rather contemplative Allemanda from Bach’s Partita No. 1.

It is perhaps a sombre and intrepid start to the first movement of all of his Partitas – it’s angular and slightly awkward with it’s harmonic contours but nonetheless, its structure frames a gravitas and provides a worthy introduction to the variety of moods and scope of characters that emerge later. Don’t worry, tempos and spirits do liven up as we progress through the movements.

Lots of irregular articulations and rhythmic patterns but all underpinned by it’s moderate dance beat and beautiful changing textures.

Apologies for the auto-blur…I am quite clearly not tech-orientated and useless at working a camera phone!
